3-day Course: Austin, TX - Oct 16-18, 2026
Working with Spinal Cord Injury:
A Framework for Exercise Selection & Execution
Hosted at
4225 Guadalupe St. Austin, TX 78751
Course Schedule
Asynchronous Pre-Course Learning Module: 1 hour video lecture
Friday Oct 16: 1-6pm
Saturday Oct 17: 8-5:30pm
Sunday Oct 18: 8-4:30pm
Course Description & scope of curriculum
22 Contact Hours of Continuing Education, approved by APTA in several states.
Through a clinically applicable framework, clinicans will learn a system for intentional and appropriate exercise selection and sequencing/progression, starting with optimizing the most accessible area of the body: the shoulders.
Leveraging the unique properties of fascia (which does not need neural input from the CNS!) in combination with exercises and sequencing inspired by the Motor Development Progression, participants will learn how to use the shoulders and upper extremities as an accessible entry point to influence trunk stability, postural control, and lower-extremity integration.
Participants will apply concepts in real time with demonstration models, developing skills in movement analysis, clinical reasoning, and program design for both cervical- and thoracic-level SCI. The scope of exercises shared in this course covers C5-T12 SCI, generally.
Emphasis is placed on translating theory into practical strategies that enhance motor learning, improve functional outcomes, and build client confidence across rehabilitation and performance contexts.
For more information on the course description, learning objectives, daily agenda, student-faculty ratios, Continuing Education information, presenter bio, and to download the Course Syllabus, visit the main course information page here.
Other notes:
This course is hosted at an outpatient/activity-based-therapy clinic that does not host pilates equipment. If you are looking for a course that specifically highlights the use of Pilates equipment for neuro clients/patients, refer to the Pilates Equipment online course or private clinic in-service.
If you are unsure if this course venue is best for your learning goals, please email me or book a Discovery Call to discuss.
This course will have a Lab Assistant with 16+ participants to keep a student-faculty ratio of 16:1 in compliance with APTA standards.
